Hey there! We’re Marisa and Dylan, the faces behind the cameras that run Boy Girl Beauty World 🙂
We both grew up in Michigan’s gorgeous Upper Peninsula (ten minutes from each other!). There is a long list of reasons why we still spend summers here, and the most important thing on that list is the vast natural beauty of the area. From Lake Superior and its’ perfect beaches and crystalline water, to the pure forests and bountiful hiking and outdoor activities of our Keweenaw Peninsula, we freaking love it here and sharing that love with our clients!
Why boy girl beauty world?
Besides wanting a business name that could stand out in such a saturated market, we wanted our name to capture more than just our ability to take pictures. Our name is meant to encapsulate our intrinsic belief that this world is phenomenally beautiful, from its crystalline lakes and wooded forests to the smallest signs of human affection.
We believe that beauty is everywhere out there and we relish the opportunity to capture it through our cameras.
Everywhere? Yes! Basically everywhere. We continuously eye everything around us and love to capture the smaller moments that happen between the big ones. That perfect portrait photo really makes our hearts sing (and your mum loves it for on the wall!) but what we really go crazy for the tender looks that happen just before that, when you don’t think a photo is being taken.
Our reverence for nature means we constantly analyze how we our actions may affect it. From our diet, to where we live, to the everything we buy, we know everything we do is a vote for the world we want to live in.
We strive to minimize our travel by conferencing with our clients online and living close to our most visited places. While minimizing those types of travel, we also have partnered with Mossy Earth to offset the carbon emitted by our business travel!! This allows us to still enjoy road tripping and flying to new destinations while the world moves to carbon neutral travel.
Speaking of Mossy Earth, did you know they can actually offset your wedding?? If we think about it, there is a lot of energy, products, and food that go into making a wedding happen, so there are a lot of steps you can take to lower the footprint your wedding! This blog has some good ideas 🙂
This is the Princess Consuela Vananahammock. (Yes, we tend to quote FRIENDS and The Office a lot)
She is our noble steed that brings us around this country while packing a couch/full size bed, foot pump operated water system, and solar power to keep us connected and editing photos no matter where we are.
When the opportunity arises, we love grabbing only our essentials (cameras, coffee grinder and aeropress, etc.) and traveling to weddings. It gives us a chance to live a minimal life and see new parts of this continent with ease. It also gives us a great appreciation for the simple things in life, like hot showers, an easy place to park, and ah, ya know, somewhere to do your business….
